Lent with a 3-year-old and a little bit of sun

I am really enjoying the fact that Jack is now old enough to begin to understand traditions and concepts! As I'm sure everyone knows, Lent began this past wednesday. In the Catholic Church, and many other Churches, this is a time of prayer and fasting, in order to prepare for the great feast of Easter. It is an opportunity for discipline and reflection, which I for one, certainly need every year! (if not more!)
While most of this is lost on a 3 year old, and he is not at the age where he would give up meat on friday or some other sacrifice as is traditional for Catholics, we did color this cute little lenten journey calender which I found at cathoicicing.com
Colored AND painted I should say, he was really in a crafty mood! Each day he gets to put a sticker on the next day of the calender and we talk about our journey to Easter. So far, it has been a fun activity. I think he is understanding the concept of time more, so instead of talking about Easter coming in a few weeks, which is very vague, I hope this will give him a more concrete idea of days and weeks.
His new favorite question to ask is "what time is it mom?" Mike thinks it is because he knows that his bedtime is at 8:30 so he always wants to check and make sure it is not 8:30! :)

It is a good thing for Bailey that she is so cute..... a few days ago, Mike got some raspberry plant starts from someone at work, which I just planted in the yard. This morning, however, she dug one up and brought it to me on the deck..... sigh......
Thankfully, up until today, we have had a few rain free days and so we were able to get out and play in the backyard. I can't WAIT for spring and summer when we just have the door open all day and Jack basically lives outside. He loves being out there so much, but right now, he gets cold pretty quick!

He also had a lot of fun playing some Soccer with Dad last night! He plays inside all the time but outside is much more fun of course!

Happy Weekend!!
